What habits do you want to create this year?
A lot of us have goals to be healthy, change our diet or start exercise, again. Many times we are using the old story against us, instead of for us. I encourage looking at it to learn what roadblocks you may have again and to reflect on learning. Whatever your goal is you can make a new story.
Many times we are using the old story against us, instead of for us
An example may be losing weight or an exercise program. A lot of people can relate to doing really well on a plan and making progress, then they stopped usually when life got in the way and didn’t start again. What we sometimes do is compare our now to that peak period, instead of how we started that journey. If you were successful with a plan, use that as evidence you can do it again! Reflect on the reason you stopped. Many times we just need to get back on track quicker, not tell ourselves it’s too late because of ‘that one week’ or ‘I’ll get back on track Monday and party until then.’
Reflecting on the reason you stopped is helping you see what you need when that happens again. Is it watching out for all or nothing? If that is the case, let yourself start with 10 minute workouts or just vegetables instead of a complete diet haul.
If you had a period where you were ‘too busy,’ think about it now. Hindsight can help you see if there was an option to adjust and maintain your weight. (or maintain whatever goal you are on.) Maybe that means walking when you get a chance, doing shorter workouts, asking for help or saying no.
What is your new story?
The other option is to just start again. Old habits are still there, it is how our brain creates pathways. You may have revisited some habits you don’t want as much of, but you just need a little dusting and that can prove to you that your work wasn’t wasted because you got off track. This can prove to you that you can get back on track and build trust with yourself to do so. What is your new story?
