Everyone can be held accountable, but what exactly is cancelling? Make sure you know the consequence of ‘cancelling’ and what it entails, and that you are getting the full truth.
Before getting to ‘cancelling’, to which really seems very unclear what it is, I want to give a comparison. When you change the name of something to get a different reaction around it, you are rebranding.
Many people became aware of how too much sugar is linked with disease. With that awareness, people started reading labels more often, identifying sugar and high fructose corn syrup on a label. This may effect what you buy if you are trying to eat healthier and eat less sugar. You may observe that there are many names for sugar now. If you google names of sugar you will get numbers in the 50’s and 60’s for different names of sugar. Why so many? This seems a bit confusing. Why not just call it sugar? If I am looking to buy a healthier food option and I can’t identify sugar, maybe I am more prone to purchase that product, thinking I am making a healthier choice. Rebranding means reselling, instead of calling it what it is, sugar.
Cancel Culture. Getting cancelled. What does that mean? It sounds like you are just pressing a button and just like that, someone is cancelled. And what exactly happens if someone is cancelled? We know in real life you don’t just hit a button and someone disappears. So you have to actually take steps to take them down. Okay, I think I understand what being cancelled is. It sounds like a buttered up way of removing them from the planet, ruining them, killing their spirit. The name was changed so you would not have to feel bad about it and get people that otherwise wouldn’t help if it were actually called what it is. Call it what it is. Be clear about what you are doing. What has justified you to make that decision for another?
Are you even sure what you are bringing them down for? With special interests groups, greed and a lot of truths to be uncovered, is it possible that it is about something else entirely?
Because many ways of traditionally causing harm are illegal, there has to be a loophole way around it. You can not physically harm someone without it being illegal or making it look like an accident. This sounds like an expensive use of time, money and energy of bringing someone down. Are you even sure what you are bringing them down for? With special interests groups, greed and a lot of truths to be uncovered, is it possible that it is about something else entirely?
And who decides who is cancelled or not? As long as a human is deciding this, there is a possibility for human error. Please tell me you don’t believe that you are justified in this? You are cancelling another life and have made it a big joke on the internet. Or did you think cancelling meant something else? That is brutal. Causing harm is not a laughing matter. If you choose to unfollow someone, so be it.
