Knowing something doesn’t change your needs.
I recently wrote about my experience where I was very excited to be able to use an independent lab and how my sample was thrown out. It was my fault, of course.
When something happens, we might create a story about how it is personal. I find it helpful to bring logic and facts into the picture. Logic would ask, how would these people even know me to intentionally slow down my medical visits? The logical answer will help you see how it is possible. Name, ID, phone number, email. All of these are your identification. (If you change those, consider the consequences. Even changing an email can cause chaos.)
Does it make sense to me to hang up on someone that has an out of state phone number? No. If I think about another point of view which is that there seems to be a ‘we don’t want Californians here attitude.’ The idea that I was here first and you should leave. I understand that. I got priced out of my own town.
Some people might get harassed and think, ‘It is not safe here, I should leave.’ Not me. I think, ‘I can’t leave town until I get these issues taken care of.’ This is my inner Grandma.
I feel like putting a sign up on my forehead that says, ‘As soon as this is resolved, I can leave the town I never planned on staying to begin with.’ It is a lovely town. I just wasn’t planning on staying. Soon after I got here, my car got vandalized, twice. Another time I caught some homeless people hanging out inside. This took a massive chunk of my time getting it fixed. Massive. Almost a year waiting. I had to move in order to protect my vehicle in a more secure location. Result: rent went up, another year lease.
Shortly after moving here, my landlord towed my vehicle for backed in parking, which I saw as a fairly common incidence at the apartment community. My fault. No warning. No phone call. So, I pay to get my vehicle back. I find it interesting that they know my vehicle, which is required to describe it on the lease.
My plans to leave after 6 months got put on hold. I couldn’t help but wonder, was I targeted or is this how people treat each other here?
I tried to forward my mail three times. The website kept going in circles. I had to go to the office in person to do it.
Why would I have been targeted? Let’s state the facts. I am a woman. I had out of state license plates at the time. (I did register my vehicle shortly after.) I registered to vote when I got here.
Coincidence? My work schedule is blocked. Schedule MD visit. Next day, get an appointment at the time of my MD visit, making me have to cancel. It seems the schedule was unblocked. Lose time. Appointment is postponed a month.
It is really easy to focus on getting hung up, having to reschedule, getting car vandalized, etc. Even if it is true that it is not a coincidence, but rather a grand scheme of harassment, it doesn’t change what I need. I still need to see a doctor and be treated fairly. I still needed to get my vehicle fixed. I still would like to move out of your town that is lovely but I never planned to stay.
All I need is 1.0 million dollars and I can go back to California. 😉
That should take care of the problems I am having so I can put more time into moving.
