Dye Them.
My favorite pants were fading. They were a very sleek denim pair of black pants with a Moto style and zippers on the bottom. I could wear them to most things and they would fit in. When they started fading, I knew I had to buy them again. The problem, they were really hard to find. It took about a year to find them. I found them used even, so more time had passed than usual.
The first time I saw the Moto design, I loved it immediately. I started looking for it, but without knowing the name of the design, I was just searching without much luck. Time passed and I finally found out that they are called ‘moto’. After I had these pants for a good year or two, someone told me what that was. The Moto design is meant for dirt bikers and motorists placed in designated areas on a garment to protect the rider in a fall. The fashion industry saw this as the beautiful design that it is, and made it happen.
I am talking about the diagonal lines crossing over the elbows and the knees of a garment, that is what I was told was a ‘moto’ feature. Moto jackets are a different design, also very cute and associated with the black jacket rebel.
I would look online every now and then and check out the pants sections. One day I finally found a black pair on Poshmark, a used website for selling clothing. They were the perfect fit, the perfect everything. So, when they started to fade, I tried to find the same pair, they are from H&M actually. No luck, and I am glad for that. When something takes you that long to find, you don’t just throw it away.
I remembered that you can dye fabric. I bought some black dye, put the pants in a bucket of water and left them for a couple days, longer than instructions say is needed. (I wanted to really make sure they were as black as possible.)
It worked great. They came out super black. I still had my favorite pair of sleek, black Moto jeans.
