Being hydrated is key to not craving sugar.
If you have been drinking soda pop, you may be used to a very sweet beverage and these drinks will take a taste adjustment.
Kambucha: I liked kombucha immediately. This is not always the case. This is a naturally carbonated drink. It is a very old recipe made from a scoby (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). Full of good bacteria for your gut. It feels good and tastes good. It is sold commercially now but can be made from home if you can get a scoby. It can be flavored many different ways and can also have sugar added in for flavor after it is complete. The fizz comes from a second fermentation.
Unsweetened Coffee: This may take some getting used to. Taste buds can adjust. When you learn to drink coffee without sugar, you may be able to taste the subtle differences in flavors: berry, cocoa, etc. Not having an over saturation of sugar on your taste buds, seem to make it more sharp. Either way, a warm cup is a delicious way to savor the moment.
Tea is really amazing. There are so many flavor variations. There are teas that suggest they can help you detox, increase energy, calm down, sleep and even go smoothly. Caffeine or non caffeinated. Green tea has been shown to aid with weight loss. There are flavored teas like berry, chai, dessert teas like TAZO lemon delights, herbal teas. A nice option that is available at most gas stations is unsweetened iced tea. Swap this if your goal is to stop drinking soda.
Warm or iced tea can give your mouth a subtle flavor when you need a break. Tea time anyone? Tea time and taking a break, doing nothing, is a great way to savor the day.
Flavored Sparkling Water: This is a great option for those that have gotten off soda and crave that fizz. Make sure to check the sugar content to make sure you are not getting a sparkling beverage with added sugar.
Mineral Water: This has a very nice mineral flavor and not the same taste as sparkling water.
Plain Water: Being hydrated has so many benefits. We need water to live. Drink up!
Challenge: Take a personal observation of when you are eating sugar and ask yourself when you last had any water. Notice if there is a pattern here. Try having a drink of water and waiting 5 minutes. Then see how you feel.
