And Cured My Insatiable Need for Sugar…
I Quit Sugar: Your Complete 8-Week Detox Program and Cookbook by Sarah Wilson.
This book was the tipping point and key to finally being able to cut sugar and live with less sugar. The focus is on Whole Foods and all the flavors. Her recipes are delicious. She has a way of explaining ‘the why’ that can help keep you going past the craving. This is not a weight loss book but that is what I experienced, without cutting portions, just sugar. After doing this program, I experienced for the first time in my life, ‘forgetting to eat.’ I was always thinking about and ready for the next meal, snack. I could not understand these people that told me they ‘forget to eat’. I believed them but I didn’t think it was possible for me. This really helped my blood sugar stabilize.

Eat Taste Heal: An Ayurvedic Guidebook and Cookbook for Modern Living by Dr. Thomas Yarema M.D., Daniel Rhoda, and Johnny Brannigan.
I didn’t know what Ayurveda was before this book. This introduced me to the idea of eating other flavors besides sweet. Including all the flavors can be a satisfying and enjoyable way to eat. It includes many ideas but an important one is HOW one is eating. Ayurveda looks at your whole health, timing of eating, and stress. (Those are just some of the topics.) There is a whole science behind it and it is at least 5,000 years old.

The Quantum Wellness Cleanse by Kathy Freston.
The way she explains making change is the most valuable part I gained from this book. She describes a quantum leap in her book, which is the idea of staying on your edge of change. Change is very hard. Your edge is the area you are uncomfortable, it is not easy, but you can keep going. Stick with this and eventually you will make the quantum leap of change. This inspired me so much. Her program was the first time I was able to stay off sugar for 7 days. I was really on my edge with the 21 day cleanse. This includes no sugar, dairy, meat, gluten or caffeine. I had sugar after a week and got back on track with the cleanse to finish 21 days. This program changed the way I eat. This was vital to me having a mindset not to give up and to slow down enough to make the change. When I added back in gluten, it did not sit well with me. I still avoid it because I felt so much better without it. I used to bloat so badly after I ate that I was in pain and looked pregnant. Avoiding gluten is a personal choice because of how important gut health is to mental health, and both are very important to me.
